Punahou Taps Lumen for International Student Energy Exercise

Each year Punahou hosts the Student Global Leadership Initiative, bringing students from around the world to Hawaii for a two-week-long meeting on a topic of global interest – this year it’s Energy. The 48 participating students from from 15 schools in China, Japan, Singapore, Jordan and the U.S. will attend lectures and fieldtrips and meet with political and community leaders from the energy sector. The aim of the Initiative is to build leadership skills by engaging the students to conceive a realistic, yearlong project that will better their own countries’ energy shortfalls.

Lumen Solar’s Managing Partner Melissa White will join other community leaders including Jeff Mikulina of Blue Planet Foundation, Perry White of Planning Solutions, and Scott Glenn of the Sierra Club in assisting the students with conceptualizing energy solutions within unique geographical, environmental, and political contexts.

Members of the public are invited to mingle with SGLI students at a special screening of Carbon Nation, a 2010 documentary about climate change, to be shown at Wo Center on Punahou Campus at 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 27. The film will be preceded by a panel discussion with Hawaii Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz and other guest speakers.

Solar, EVs, and Cool Roofs at GEO this Saturday

Lumen Solar’s Rocky Mould will be among the featured speakers at this Saturday’s special event at the Green Energy Outlet, joining leaders from the green community in discussing green technologies and Hawaii’s energy future. Other speakers include Ro Marth of Ku’oko’a, Mark Piscioneri of the Electric Vehicle Association of Honolulu, and Justin MacNaughton of GreenCar Hawaii.

From 12-4 pm, the public is invited to learn about the energy-saving applications of cool roofs, view the latest solar technologies, and experience firsthand the exciting world of electric vehicles.

Pacific Islands Construction Touts Apricus

Lumen x AIA at Punahou Sustainability Fair

Lumen Solar joined the local AIA Committee on the Environment in creating an interactive booth at Punahou School’s annual Sustainability Fair. The booths are meant to engage the students with sustainability in fun, mind-expanding ways, and we accomplished that through a recycled building material matching game (to match the latest composite building products with their recycled feedstock), a musical instrument made with salvaged materials, and hands-on solar displays. Visitors were fascinated by the shiny cerulean Apricus evacuated tubes and intrigued by our Atlantis Sunslate building-integrated PV roof shingle. Ideas are already blossoming for next year’s fair! Lumen Solar recently joined the Hawaii chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as an Ohana Allied Member. We attended the 2011 AIA Kick-off Party last week at the Pacific Club and mingled with new AIA Board members and plenty of fellow Allied members.

Meet Rocky Mould, Lumen’s New Business Development Director

Lumen Solar LLC is pleased to welcome Rocky Mould, our new Business Development Director.

Rocky comes from a strong finance and business development background. Over the last 17 years, he has spearheaded several international start-up technology and investment companies. As a portfolio manager and financial analyst, he focused on energy and materials stocks and managed portfolios valued at over $200 million. He also developed sustainable investment strategies for AIG Investment Group. Rocky has a BA in History from Yale University and an MA in Economics and Emerging Markets Finance from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). A native of New Jersey, he recently relocated to Honolulu along with his Kama’aina girlfriend.
